Jim Ehrenreich
Recreation Aide
After a
three-year tour of active duty with the US Army in Paris, France, Jim Ehrenreich
came to Army Special Services (now called MWR) in 1961 as an Arts and Crafts
program instructor in southwestern France. Subsequent assignments in
Verdun and Nancy, France and in Bad Kreuznach, Aschaffenburg and Hanau, Germany
over the last 43 years culminated in his retirement from Army Recreation last
July.
Jim earned a
Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, learning a variety
of ancient, classical and contemporary techniques of oil and water-based
painting, egg tempera, true fresco, enameling and sculpture. His Master's
degree project was the fresco painting of a mural cycle in the rotunda of the
University Library. After graduation with high honors, he worked as artist
/ designer for a leading ecclesiastical architectural firm in Manhattan.
Over the past several years, he has volunteered to paint many sets and backdrops
for the 5-Pfennig Playhouse (from "The Man of La Mancha through "The
Sound of Music") and now serves there as a part-time Recreation Aide.
At his home/studio
near Aschaffenburg, he is currently working on a portrait project to include
painting and drawing all five of his children and five grandchildren, now
scattered throughout the US and Europe.
