About us
The Five Pfennig Playhouse is an Army community
theater of the 414th Base Support Battalion in Hanau, Germany. It is
located in bldg. 405 on Old Argonner Kaserne in Hanau-Wolfgang. As part of
the Army's Morale, Wellfare & Recreation (MWR) program, it belongs to
the Community Recreation Division (CRD).
The facility is a multi-cultural arts center, which
boasts two, intimate theater venues, a music center, a dance studio and a
bar. One of the theater venues is set up for dinner theater operations,
while the other is in the traditional theater seating format. Both spaces
are quaint with small stages and boast furnishings that reflect the former
Officers' Club that this building once was.
The theater has a small, professional staff and
relies heavily on volunteers to perform all functions, both onstage and
off. We are constantly recruiting more volunteers as the residents of the
military community all move out of town after an average 2-3 year stay in
the area.
The Five Pfennig Playhouse is one of the premier
theaters in a 16 city network of Army Europe community theaters. They
participate in the annual Tournament of Plays, One Act Play Festival,
Battle of Bands and Stars of Tommorow contests.
